Creating Price Alerts
TradingView's alert system is one of its most powerful features. Instead of staring at charts all day, you can set alerts to notify you when specific conditions are met. This frees up your time while ensuring you never miss a trading opportunity.
Creating a Simple Price Alert
- 1Right-click on the chart at the price level where you want an alert
- 2Select "Add Alert" from the context menu
- 3The condition will be pre-filled with the price level you clicked
- 4Choose the alert action: Crossing, Crossing Up, Crossing Down, Greater Than, Less Than
- 5Set the expiration time (when the alert should stop watching)
- 6Choose notification method: pop-up, sound, email, phone notification, or webhook
- 7Add an optional message to remind yourself why you set this alert
- 8Click "Create" to activate the alert
Alert Conditions Explained
- Crossing — Triggers when price crosses the level in either direction
- Crossing Up — Only triggers when price moves UP through the level
- Crossing Down — Only triggers when price moves DOWN through the level
- Greater Than — Triggers when price is above the level
- Less Than — Triggers when price is below the level
- Entering Channel — Triggers when price enters a defined range
- Exiting Channel — Triggers when price exits a defined range
Alert Options
Each alert can trigger once, once per bar (timeframe), or every time the condition is met. "Once" is best for break-through levels, "Once Per Bar Close" gives more reliable signals by waiting for confirmed closes.
Pro Tip
Set alerts at key support and resistance levels BEFORE the market reaches them. This way you're prepared for potential trades rather than reacting to moves you've already missed.
